School structure

Main content start

The school's three-part structure fosters new discoveries, encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and drives sustainability solutions. All provide opportunities for students to get involved.

  • Academic¬†departments, organized in transitional divisions, support scholarship across the full range of disciplines needed to create a sustainable future, and offer undergraduate and graduate degrees, courses that engage all students regardless of major, and provide research opportunities.
  • Institutes focus knowledge and expertise from across the university on pressing issues, and provide opportunities for students to engage in research and advocacy.
  • The Sustainability Accelerator drives new technology and policy solutions through project funding, specialized training, shared equipment, and convening. Through external partnerships with community groups, policymakers, governments, non-profit organizations and businesses, the accelerator ensures that ideas born at Stanford are developed and scaled to benefit the world.
